Planning camera coverage in 3D, before the blind spot exists
Most CCTV blind spots get discovered after an incident, when it is too late to matter. A spatial model of the site lets a team find them on a screen, in advance.
Camera placement on most sites was decided once, years ago, often by whoever installed the system rather than whoever now has to defend its coverage to an auditor or a board. Buildings change. Storage gets stacked in front of a lens. A new fence line creates a new dead angle. Nobody notices until an incident happens in exactly the wrong spot.
Seeing the site the way a camera does
A 3D twin lets a Surveillance Analyst model a camera's actual field of view against the current physical layout of the site, not the layout on the original installation drawing from years ago. Blind spots created by a new structure, seasonal stock, or simple wear and repositioning become visible on screen, before they become the gap an incident exploits.
That same spatial model supports the wider planning job, not just cameras. A Security Director or Risk Manager can use it for vulnerability mapping and threat assessment across a whole site, and an Operations Manager can use it for shift planning and access control decisions that are grounded in the actual geography of the estate rather than a floor plan nobody has checked against reality recently.
The regulatory backdrop
Private security operations sit under SIA and PSS obligations, and the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act sets requirements around connected security devices on a site. None of that is solved by a 3D twin on its own. What the twin gives a security team is a documented, current basis for the coverage and vulnerability decisions they need to be able to explain, rather than relying on institutional memory of where the cameras point.
Being direct about scope: this is a planning and documentation tool, not a live monitoring replacement. It sits alongside existing CCTV and access control systems, and it does not watch the site for you in real time.
